I was on the commute today and began to put together a scenario where I could camp off of my bike. It all started yesterday as I researched the extracycle freeradical. I decided to build my old Trek 6500 into a SUB. The specs of the bike will remain mostly the same, LX front and rear including cranks, same tires 26/2.25 etc. Changes will include mechanical disc brakes, an upgrade from the XT v brakes, the freeradical(obviously) the longtail kit, and Surly 1x1 disc brake front fork to replace the Judy XC on currently.
So, I hope to talk my brother-in-law into riding next year from Santa Fe to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in CO. We will take the route through Pagosa Springs and cross over to Durango then go around to Telluride through Delores, etc. There are multiple camping opportunities along the way, the scenery is outstanding, and the workout will be epic.
The commute surely lets the mind wonder.
