Monsoon season. Each day is an adventure. This time of the year in northern NM is referred to as monsoon season. This is kind of a misnomer. It entails extreme cloud cover in the afternoon and a perpetual threat of rain that is rarely realized. As a bike commuter you definitely have to prepare by carrying a rain suit, but you'll rarely have to use it. I've found the weather forecasting to be particularly inaccurate this time of year. If you're the type of cyclist that watches the weather report to determine you're decision on whether or not to ride, you'll most likely leave the bike home and take the bus or, god forbid, your car.
The good thing about this time of year is the break from the sun and the slight increase in humidity. Your less likely to burn and the heat is tempered by the clouds. If your someone, like myself, who moved here from another place, you, at times, may miss some moisture in the air. This is the short time of the year when our juniper/pinion savanna gets a tinge of humidity. It's good to build up an actual sweat, other times of the year it can dry before you get the chance to enjoy it.
All in all this is a great time of the year. Each day you return home and you're not soaking wet is a win. The days are long and the weather is fine. Summer in Santa Fe truly is a great time to ride.
