A tough weekend

The Sunday blues made there mark this weekend, managing to catch a current and build to a deep sadness felt by many in this small town. One tragedy involves a drunk motorist on a cloudy Sunday morning. Traveling in the wrong lane at 50mph, a drunken idiot murdered 4 local Santa Fe teens and left one in critical condition. Of course the 28 year old drunk, driving a SUV, lived with only minor injuries and in one fell swoop destroyed the lives of some promissing young contributers to our community. Many of the teens slain were activists in the community working toward Santa Fe's sustainable future, some were artists, others gardners, one vounteered at the homeless shelter every week. The man who killed them has a previous record for DUI. What the fuck is going on. Why are diseased vermon like this man allowed to continue to drive automobiles? Why is he drunk on a Sunday morning and operating a SUV? Our culture is struggling so pathetically that we allow this revolving door of destruction to take the lives of our children. We need to break our automobile addiction and live a slower, more present lifestyle. If everyone slowed down and lived for the beauty of each moment then there wouldn't be the need to drink to oblivion with judgement so clouded that common sense ceases to exist.
There is so much death in the media right now. It causes one to reflect on his or her own life and to consider quality over quantity. Our good friend is losing her grandmother, another good friend just lost her stepfather, and many of our culture's inescapable celebrities are dropping like flies. In this time of saddness get out and do something for someone. Get out of your car and slow down. Spend time with friends and children, make every moment count.
